The Bones and Brew fest July 31 and August 1 was a great chance to try some of Portlands barbecue pits without a big commitment. The vendors offered a variety of barbecue including ribs, pulled pork and even sausage on a stick.
Not really barbecue but fantastic - The Canby Asparagus Farm/Casa de Tamales Restaurant. They were grilling chicken with a tasty sauce that was more what I would call a salsa, and it worked like a charm. What was really fantastic was the tamales. They really focus on tamales, quesadillas and salsas made with local ingredients, including of course asparagus. All of the veggies are grilled, and include very tasty grilled beets. With 40 varieties of tamales there is something for everyone. You can reach them at 503-654-4423. The restaurant is in Milwaukee at 10605 SE Main St.
